When to start spring spraying of fruit trees?

In order for the applied spraying to have a chance to work and bring the expected effect, it should be carried out at the right time. Both spraying the trees too early and delaying the recommended date will result in a lack of effect. So how do you determine if the timing is right and when to start spraying?

There can be only one answer - it depends.

Unfortunately, we cannot give a specific date, because it changes every year, depending on the current weather conditions. The only way out of the situation, and at the same time a good way to determine the date of spring spraying, is a thorough inspection and systematic checking of the development phase of the trees. The weather has a big influence here, which is why the dates are usually movable and difficult to define unambiguously.

Particular attention should be paid to the leaf development phase, and the first spring spraying should be done before the leaf buds open. A good suggestion is also the spring schedule for spraying trees in the garden and the manufacturer's recommendations on the packaging of a specific preparation. In case of doubt, we always advise consulting a qualified employee of a garden store who has the appropriate knowledge in the field of plant care and protection.

How to inspect fruit trees before spring spraying?

Effective plant control will help you quickly identify the emerging problem and react before it is too late.

The most common fungal diseases affecting fruit trees include apple and pear scab, brown rot of stone fruit trees, powdery mildew, fine leaf spot, and fire blight. Determining the degree of infection and the type of disease will help you choose the right preparation and the optimal dose. We would like to point out that a very important thing in running a garden is the skillful watering of plants, which we write about in our article on how to water vegetables so that they grow better.

However, fungal diseases are not the only threat to your fruit trees. Equally dangerous are the pests that feed among the leaves, and which can spread to such an extent that effective combat is impossible. Omitting spring spraying of fruit trees to combat pests usually results in a drastic slowdown in the development of the plant, and thus in the subsequent yield.

Pests that attack fruit trees include, for example, spider mites, aphids, apple honeysuckle, leaf rollers, plum moth and fruiting bodies. Starting an effective fight against pests depends on the early detection of the problem, the type of pest and its number.

It is worth noting that the first recommended spring spraying is a preparation for overwintering pests. The procedure should be carried out quite early, at the turn of February and March. Emulpar 940 EC will be perfect for this role - an oil preparation containing saffron oil in its composition, thanks to which it can be safely used during the entire vegetation period, even on leafy trees.

March protective treatments are crucial for the proper development of the plant, but you should remember about several important issues that may translate into their effectiveness.

Spraying should be carried out on a dry and windless day. Sprinkling during high sun exposure can burn the plant. In turn, planning activities just before the rain will end up rinsing the preparation from the tree.

The preparation should cover the entire surface of the plant very thoroughly and evenly, and oil-based pesticides should be sprayed until the preparation begins to drip from the leaves. The exception is Copper spray - in this case, point application to the infected area is recommended.

For spring spraying to have a chance to work, basic air temperature requirements must be met. The most popular preparations for spring spraying of fruit trees should be used at a temperature of at least 6ÂșC.

For spring spraying, a pressure sprayer with a selected capacity will work, which is distinguished by easy operation and comfortable use. Before starting work, be sure to protect your hands with protective gloves, and your face with an appropriate mask. Remember that spraying is chemical, so it can be harmful to your health.

When planning spring spraying, it is also worth considering the safety of beneficial insects, such as bees. Make sure that the agent does not spread to the nearby fields of rapeseed or other plants, and it is recommended to remove flowering weeds from the vicinity of the trees before spraying. If there are apiaries nearby, be sure to inform the beekeeper about the planned spraying, which will enable effective protection of insects.
